Accel-o-Fac® Wastewater Treatment System, by Gurney Environmental, has successfully treated a wide variety of wastewater for many years.
When having to choose between sending its sewage to a nearby water treatment company via a pipeline, storing in septic tanks, or getting into the treatment business themselves, the Estate elected the Accel-o-Fac® windpowered system.
Low energy, no ongoing sludge handling or disposal, and water of a quality excellent for reuse on the Estate for irrigation purposes.
In 2016, Gurney Environmental completed the installation of an Accel-o-Fac® upgrade to the Harbour View WWTW located just outside Kingston Town, Jamaica.
The installation demonstrated how the company’s Accel-o-Fac® system can be used to upgrade existing lagoon-based systems operated by the NWC, as well as maintain highly sustainable, affordable sanitation for the people of Jamaica. Low energy and no sludge or odours are primary benefits.
The system can be used to upgrade existing lagoon-based systems providing accelerated processing rates, increased DO levels, uniform loading of the cells (no influent zone hotspots), elimination of short circuiting (increasing true detention time), accelerated disinfection, complete odour control and accelerated sludge digestion — all of which allows greater loads to be applied to existing lagoons, thereby extending their life whilst improving performance.
Specially designed Accel-o-Fac system at Severn & Wye providing an effective treatment solution that would cost-effectively handle the variable design flows and loadings from the Smokery. The Accel-o-Fac® system is uniquely capable of handling significant variations in both flow and loading, and can accommodate further development of the Smokery business.
The Accel-o-Fac® system offers owners and operators significant benefits in both OPEX and CAPEX savings as compared to treatment alternatives such as activated sludge or SBR’s operating at up to 95% less. The results are incredibly low total life costs (TOTEX) and initial capital cost recovery.
Located on the southern tip of Victoria, the Inverloch wwtp offered South Gippsland Water the opportunity to utilise consistent winds to improve treatment, while keeping energy costs to a minimum and further enhancing their sustainability credentials.
Gurney Environmental completed the installation of the primarily wind-powered Accel-o-Fac® wastewater treatment system upgrade for South Gippsland Water in mid 2015. After a year of operation, managers of the wwtp have provided the results of typical DO profiles now being accomplished with dramatically reduced energy, and the results are impressive. The high residual DO levels being maintained by the Accel-o-Fac system now allow the original electric aeration to be shut off for much of the time through the use of a DO controller.
